Birthday Fundraiser

Many, many moons ago I came up with a brilliant idea! I wanted to celebrate my 50th birthday with 50 freaky friends. That milestone came and went without fanfare or party. What was special about that birthday was not just turning 50, it was that I had been a La Leche League Canada (LLLC) leader at that point for 25 years - half my life! Anyone who knows me knows how close LLLC is to my heart. Being involved with LLLC has positively shaped my parenting, gave me a sense of belonging and provided an opportunity to give back to my community while developing skills. I strongly believe organisations like LLLC are the heart of commmunity building. In a time when official agencies (government etc) toots the importance of breastfeeding/chestfeeding for the health of our nation, La Leche League has been there to give the practical supports to help parents reach their goals. The mentoring and just seeing other parents nurse encourages new parents in their journey. I have enjoyed being part of those supports in 4 provinces and at all levels of this beautiful organization! The work LLLC does through it's volunteers is invaluable! It is cost efficient, accurate and offered with empathy. Whereever you are in your early parenting journey we are here to support. For this reason (& so we can budget for an in-person national board meeting), I am reviving my 50 Freaky Friends dream. I would be tickled pink if 50 of my wonderful, freaky (or not) friends would donate to an organization I love. Later this year I will celebrate 30 years as a leader! Help me ensure the same supports I accessed 32 years ago, with my first baby, are still here for my grandchildren and yours. I haven't set an amount, just the goal of having 50 friends donate! Thank you for your consideration and for tolerating the reminders over the coming days to donate in celebration!

With deep gratitude and metta,

Patricia Vanier
