Save the Date for our Upcoming Parenting Conference!

LLLC Alberta/NWT will be partnering with ParentLink to host Deborah MacNamara, a clinical counsellor, educator and author of Rest Play Grow at the ParentLink Centre Gymnasium – 16811-88thAve. in Edmonton on Friday evening, October 20th, 2017 from 6 pm to 9 pm (dinner provided). This evening session will be tailored to Helping Professionals: La Leche League Volunteer Leaders and Leader Applicants, Health Professionals and Early Childhood Educators. 

Friday 7 pm (dinner at 6 pm) - Rest, Play, Grow:  7 Things Young Kids Wished Adults Understood About Them

Learn about the Developmental Model of the Preschooler and get a clearer picture of the type of environment that allows the youngest members of our society to grow, thrive and reach their potential. This presentation will address commonly misunderstood preschooler behavior including resistance, frustration, attachment, the need for play, and impulsiveness.

The conference will continue on Saturday morning and afternoon, October 21st, 2017 from 10 am to noon and 1 pm to 3 pm (lunch and limited preschool childcare provided). These sessions will be open to Health Professionals, but will be geared more to parents. They will be based on a developmental approach to parenting with the intent of educating parents of preschool children to better respond to the emotional needs of their children. 

Saturday 10 am – Who’s In Charge? Why Adults Need Build Strong Connections with Kids

Since relationship and connection are the greatest needs kids have, this session will highlight why adults need to lead and how relationships with children develop and can be protected. Strategies for attachment safe and developmentally friendly discipline will be discussed.

Saturday 1 pm – Tears and Tantrums: Understanding Frustration and Aggression

This session will focus on strategies for dealing with a frustrated child without damaging the attachment relationship. It will address the importance of setting limits and helping children learn that they can survive the futilities that are part of life.
