About the latest issue:

August 2016 Out and About

We all know that breastfeeding is the healthiest option for babies, but how many mothers know that not breastfeeding may have significant consequences for their own health too? How often do we hear about what’s in it for mothers beyond faster weight loss? Health psychologist and LLL Leader Dr. Kathleen Kendall-Tackett examines how breastfeeding your baby is good for your own long-term health too.

In Out and About Breastfeeding and Dining Out we hear mothers’ memorable experiences about breastfeeding their babies in public spaces. We’d love to hear more from you about yours if you’d care to share.

Erin Pushman takes a peek in baby’s diaper to reassure you about what you can expect to find.

Mother Rebecca Edwards struggled to make breastfeeding work after starting life with her second baby in a Special Care Baby Unit and tells how she faced the challenges. Joy Mottram reports from hospital about the care her new baby is getting. Photographer Esther Edith, whose beautiful images can be found in many of our posts, shares her own breastfeeding story with us.

At the age of 45, LLL Leader Elvira Germaná gave birth to a near-term baby and relates her gratitude for wisdom gained through LLL and her own maturity that has helped her breastfeed successfully. She wrote her story in Spanish and it appears both in the original and an Englishtranslation. Morrin Mariani had a dreadful start to breastfeeding her baby, but wants to show the beauty she sees in nursing, now she has discovered it for herself. Her story is published in the original German with an English translation. Mar Mendiola in France tells her story in Spanish of a bout of mastitis and we have an English version too. LLLI is a global organization of mothers supporting mothers, and breastfeeding is the universal language of motherhood. More and more of our posts appear in multiple languages. This one by Hilary Flower Ph.D is now available to read in seven languages!

In our letters’ column, one mother says she is ready to put a stop to breastfeeding and moms offer ideas about how she might do that gently.

Hear poet Alison Jones on what babies need in the early years.

"What’s Cooking?" columnist Katja Leccisi opens a new series on Starting Solids with a look at when babies are ready for the fun with food to begin.

We are publishing lots of new posts in between issues: take a look at the bottom of the What’s New post to see what you missed in June and July and keep an eye on this one below or the Facebook page to view each new post as it is released.

To be a part of Breastfeeding Today see our submission guidelines and share our posts with anyone you know to spread the LLLove.
