Breastfeeding Support Is Healthcare

World Health Day

On World Health Day, we often think about hospitals and clinical care. But there is another layer of support that matters just as much, and it happens in homes, in communities, and in everyday moments between parents and babies.

Breastfeeding support is healthcare.

When families have access to timely, evidence-based support, they get help sooner. Moms have their questions answered. Common challenges are worked through before they become overwhelming. This can reduce repeat visits and ease pressure on an already stretched healthcare system.

This support doesn’t replace healthcare. It strengthens it.

Peer support, like that offered through La Leche League Canada, helps fill the gap between appointments. It offers reassurance, connection, and practical support when families need it most. Supporting families in this way helps everyone. It builds confidence, improves outcomes, and creates a more responsive system of care.

Breastfeeding support is not extra. It is part of the care families deserve.
