IBCLC Day

International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) have played an important role in strengthening breastfeeding support around the world since the credential was first established in 1985. La Leche League played an integral role in the development of the IBCLC profession. Leaders from La Leche League were deeply involved in the early work that led to the creation of a standardized, international credential for lactation consultants, helping to shape a profession grounded in both evidence and the lived experience of supporting breastfeeding families.

Over the decades, peer support and professional lactation care have worked side by side to help families navigate breastfeeding challenges with both compassion and evidence-informed care. Many IBCLCs began their journeys as La Leche League Leaders, and many Leaders collaborate closely with IBCLCs in hospitals, clinics, and communities. Together, this partnership strengthens the circle of support around families. On IBCLC Day, we are grateful for the knowledge, dedication, and care IBCLCs bring to parents and babies every day, and we value the continued collaboration that helps families thrive.
